Wordpress Plugins I use
Thought I ought to list the various Wordpress plugins I use. I’ve given them a poppy-eyed man emoticon rating as to my favourites. If you read my blog (and if you don’t, why the f@ck are you here?), you’ll know about my unnatural love for the poppy-eyed man emoticon and the fact that I like using it. A Lot.
All these plugins work for Wordpress 2.0.2 and were able to be installed and configured by me (who knows a bit about html and css, but not enough to write them from scratch).
Some of the plugins can only be used in the admin interface if you turn off the wysiwyg editor (go to users and click off the box at the bottom, then save). Yeah, it’s a pain, but SO worth the gain!
Comment Spam-related
Spam Karma 2

This is the ultimate spam protection plugin. More configuration options than you can poke a stick at, as well as the ability to black and whitelist domains and IP addresses
Akismet

Akismet comes packaged with Wordpress 2.0+ and is worthwhile to install (you can’t have too much spam protection). It checks against a central blacklist of spam sources and kicks in before any other plugins added. You need to sign up with wordpress.com (not wordpress.org, the official Wordpress site) to get a key to make it work.
Comment enhancement goodies
LMB^Box Comment Quicktags

The Quicktags are the buttons you can see above the comments box, allowing your readers to do stuff easily, like add links, bold and block quote etc. You need this plugin if you want to use the LMB^Box Smileys plugin below.
LMB^Box Smileys

Goes without saying. I like the idea of being able to see the smiley I am going to use and not hope for the best when typing one in. I’m sure my users do too! This plugin also appears in your “write post” interface of the admin area, but you’ll need to turn off the wysiwyg editor to use it.
Filosofo Comments Preview

Love love LOVE it when other blogs have this feature. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so like seeing how my post is going to look before committing.
Subscribe to Comments
Ever left a comment on a blog and would like to know if someone has replied without having to visit? This plugin will email your users who have commented when a new comment is posted. Just make sure you set the default to “off”. Allow your users to choose whether to participate.
Recent Love - A list of recent comments

It warms the cockles of my heart when someone comments. Makes you feel like it’s worth writing! This plugin will list the most recent comment authors and the posts they talked about. The new template I am using is widget-friendly, and there was a recent comment widget included, but if you’re using a non-widget theme, then this plugin works a treat!
Image-related
IImage Browser

A plugin for the lazy blogger (hey, that’s me!). This plugin allows you to upload images from your admin interface, produce thumbnails and gives you the code. This is another plugin that requires you to turn off the wysiwyg editor.
Zap_ImgPop

My heart leapt with joy at this plugin. When linking to an image that will open in another window, it gives it to you, overlaid on the post page, with a handy-dandy border. Like this.
Miscellaneous
WP DB Backup

Nice, easy way to backup your database thru the admin interface. You DO backup regularly don’t you?
Autometa

Helps to automatically create meta-tags and technorati tags for your posts. Helps you get listed correctly in search engines and on Technorati. This plugin breaks with the new theme I am using, so I’m not sure what the problem is. Now using the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin. Will update when I’m sure it is working properly.
