Emasculated! (oh, and Happy New Year)
First things first.
After 395 days of uptime, my Linux box died this morning. Of course the box was so old, it died a natural death. The death was electronic, so my old Redhat installation died while still on its feet. I have Fedora downloading as I write, and will be blowing the dust off the PC I replaced just over 12 months ago and will be doing a fresh install. Emailing me on my Ms-Geek address will not give you satisfaction over the next couple of days, as my Ms-Geek domain was hosted locally. You can get me at the same prefix at grumpyoldwoman.net, however. Good thing I took some of my hosting off-shore!
So, to sum up, my e-penis is now an e-dent!
Personally, I’m doing OK. Will be off work until the end of next week. Spent some time down the South Coast with my parents (and am just finishing the bootload of mum’s take-away home cooking, bless her) and have been hard at work shopping the post-christmas sales since I’ve been back.
Spent the rest of the time watching the cricket (tune out now US residents), crying into my Kleenex over Warnie’s retirement when not laughing at how soundly we are flogging the Poms. There’s nothing more satisfying than flogging the Poms. I have outlined Australia’s stance on sporting events against England in a previous post.
Well, that’s it for now, must ease myself back in.
Oh, and Bio, thanks for checking up to make sure I’m not dead and letting everyone know :)

Instead of Fedora, why not try Ubuntu.
That’s what I used when I did my own hosting. It’s all kinds of spiffy… stupid easy to install, and runs on the debian kernal (it also handles SMP like a crazy fool if you have a dual proc system like I did).
Oh… and Cricket… um… here, that’s a cheap cellular phone company. I know you have some game by that name… kind of a cross between croquette and baseball. I’m sure it’s all kinds of spiffy too…. if you like things like that. Me… I’ll stick to watching hockey and arena football (which is NOT soccer… that’s a game that American high school girls play).
Glad to see you back online. You were totally missed

Ubuntu, Schmubuntu…
Seriously, you aren’t the first to give me suggestions in the distro-war lol
Actually we did consider Ubuntu, then decided to stick with what we knew. We, of course, means my “other man”, the legendary Warren, who keeps my Linux box tighter than a gold fish’s butthole (security-wise of course) and generally does the technical stuff I can’t (like your Jester).
We actually haven’t upgraded until now (in addition to my uptime evil plan to rule the world), as we have a killer software firewall that runs with Redhat, that hasn’t let a single bad bugger anywhere near getting in and we hope that it will also work with Fedora.
Me? I’m just glad I’ll have a nice shiny install, a newer computer running it, and more than 20 gig of hard drive space!
Oh, and re arena football. What’s with all the padding your guys wear? Pussies!
