HA! The broom broom, doof doof guys might just meet their match!
oh yes, the wankers driving crap cars with outrageously loud sound systems might just be in a spot of trouble.
Story from Gizmodo reports:
“Those loud subwoofers may soon get you a ticket via an automated system that is a marriage of red-light cameras and noise sensors.
A New South Wales company has turned technology developed for the Australian Navy into a ticketing system that can target drivers with thumping stereos, loud exhausts or who may be too heavy on the horn. The system is tied together via Wi-Fi and can hold a 10-second video and audio clip of 10,000 perpetrators before the on-board hard drive runs out of space. The automated cameras that capture red light violations can be a major source of ticketing income for cities and the addition of noise violators is an untapped revenue stream.”
Now, if you can just set aside such trivial things as privacy and violation of civil liberties issues, I’m totally in support of this idea!

I agree with the concept, but it won’t work.
All a system like that will do is make people turn down the volume at red lights (if their car is at the crosswalk). If they’re not right up front, the camera won’t be able to see the license plate, therefore, they don’t need to turn the music down.
Once the light turns green, they can crank up the volume and the camera pointing the other way will hear the sound and click a picture of the car on the crossing street and they’ll be cited for noise.
As for the issue with privacy… if you’re in a public place, you have no expectation of privacy, so it’s ok to take your picture (at least according to the law). That’s why they can have cameras at banks, grocery stores, etc.
